The Aging Resource Center is a program developed by the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut to expand our ability to meet the needs of seniors in our region. It is an umbrella program that provides information and assistance to callers on a variety of subjects. Programs include CHOICES, insurance counseling program; Information and Assistance; Family Caregiver Support Program; Medi$ave; and Homeshare.
We receive calls daily from individuals 60 years and older, disabled individuals, and caregivers. Spouses, children and grandchildren call with requests for information which will help in the development of a plan of care for older relatives at home.
The primary reason is a request for information.
Callers most often call with questions about Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap and HMOs. They also call for information about transportation, housing, adult day care, nutrition programs, fuel assistance, rental rebates, long term care and many other topics.
We assess the situation to determine the most appropriate direction in which to guide the caller. We provide information about community resources. We address issues of eligibility, access, costs and types of services available. Our information isn't limited to telephone numbers and addresses.
There is no charge. Our services are made possible by grants from the federal government through the Older Americans Act, Center for Medicare and Medicaid and private grants. Contributions are gratefully accepted, and allow us to extend services to others in need.
Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call us at 1-800-994-9422 or 1-203-785-8533 Or email us at CHOICES@snet.net |
